Hazel Food Market

South Africans like markets.  There are a bunch in and around Pretoria and others up in Joburg we want to check out.  Most sell crafts, but a few focus on food.  On Saturday, Feb 5, we headed over to one called the Hazel Food Market.  A big grassy field that's empty during the week transforms itself on Saturday morning into a food market, with stalls packed around the perimeter and tables and a play area in the center.  It's a fun way to try out different eatz, from Afrikaner boerwurst (their favorite sausage) to locally-made cheeses and homemade muffins.  Lucy loves it because it has a free blow-up castle (very popular here... even some gas stations have them... jump while you pump!), teeming with barefooted children of all ages.

A quick bite before we leave.  (Noah's not big on sausage... yet!)

Adam with our friend Jaye (from Seattle) and her son, Kovas (orange shirt, a bit older than Noah, born in their bathroom in Pretoria!  Whoops. All's well that ends well.).

Noah, "Stop bothering me. I have tree bark to chew."

I would drink from this if I only could figure out how to open it.  (Yes, G'ma Judy, it's BPA free.)

Back at the ranch in the afternoon, the kids tried out the "pool" I bought at our local Costco-like store called Makro.  It's really a sandbox but Noah insists on eating all sand with which he comes into contact.  I tell him there are other ways to add fiber to your diet.   [This post is sponsored by BeneFiber.]

We are family.

Lucy reminded Noah that it was Shabbos

...while Papa Adam supervises by reading the Huff Post on the iPad.

Everyone slept well that night.  The safari continues... xo,
Glenn
