Birthday Season!

It's February and everyone around here seems to be getting older (except me).    On Feb 7, we celebrated the birthday of our housekeeper and Noah's nanny, Dorthy.  She's a wonderful South African woman who's been living with us since mid January.  (She has a small apartment on the side of our house -- something that is quite common here.)   Noah absolutely loves her and we're all so happy to have her as part of our family (to put it mildly). She's worked for a Danish families for the last 15 years (they have an embassy here too, and nicer government furniture) but she seems to be putting up with us Americans just fine.

Dorothy opens the card Lucy picked out for her, and then we enjoyed some cupcakes.

The next evening (after her bath), Lucy and I wrote out her birthday invitations for her party later in the month.  We don't have our printer yet and it didn't occur to me to go to a copy shop, so we hand wrote 25 of them.  (It was like something out of the Walton's.  Never to be repeated.)  We invited the kids in her pre-K and the neighboring kindergarten class because they all play together, plus some other friends she's met around town.

Lucy was in charge of writing the kid's names (the fun part, she told me). I filled in the boring details.

Union break.

Back to work!

Off to bed.  The safari continues tomorrow.
