Some friends get together at a nearby park for wine after work on Friday evenings. We've started joining them and it's become a nice tradition.
I just figured out that you can see exactly where we hang out using Google Street View. Click here and let's see if this works. (This was shot in spring when the Jacaranda trees, with the purple flowers, are in bloom. We haven't seen that yet. But you should! Reservation agents are standing by for your SA holiday.)
Noah is particularly infatuated with the dogs that join us. So much so (cue the horns) that he's started saying the word "dog" when he sees any animal (dog, cat, antelope). His version sounds like "dock" and you'll hear him shout it when our neighbors' dogs bark.
Noah refuses to pay the corkage fee.
From L to R: James and Hannah (US), John (US), Shawn (US), guy with goetee (visitor, from US), Judy (a local South African!), Kimberly (US), Dick (Holland), Rodney (US), Bastian (Germany) with Little Leah (SA), and Adam. Noah and Lucy in the front. (A few Swedes, Dutchmen, and Americans were absent this time.)
Scootering
Lucy's favorite part of unboxing our stuff was finding her new scooter that she'd been given for Hannukah just before we left.
The brick path around our house quickly became the Indy 50.
Noah tries to keep up with his big sis.
Ami's Birthday Party
Lucy's good friend, Ami, turned five and we celebrated at the US Community Center (next to the Ambassador's shmancy house).
Resident monkey population. (Ami is in the pink. The other two kids are Ami's classmates. She attends a different school, one that follows the British curriculum. "Lesson one: Pudding is what you call dessert.")
Lucy never says no to a swimming pool, even a fairly chilly one. (Her outstretched leg makes her look like she's super tall. Future super model / neuroscientist / environmental activist!)
Ami and Lucy warm up.
Cake time!
The whitest kid in Africa.
And then the wettest.
(He told me he was hunting for an Iced Babyccino.)
Boy jumps off barbecue grill.
So girl must jump off barbecue grill. (Yes, I tried to talk her out of it.)
The safari falls, gets up and keeps going like nothing every happened. (All's well that ends well.)
xo,
Glenn
